My Story

Date into Rescue: 6/2/2022

Reason for being in rescue: Buddy's owner passed away and he landed at a NC shelter. Carolina Poodle Rescue pulled him from the shelter.

Special Needs: Buddy is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. This precious boy is reportedly 21 years old! Our vet noted that his heart sounds and mobility are excellent for his age. As expected, he is vision impaired and has limited teeth. Buddy has bilateral oro-nasal fistulas at the site of his canine teeth. These do not impact his ability to eat or breathe. Given his age, we have declined to perform major oral surgery to close the fistulas. These will need continued monitoring.

What kind of home would be best for me: Buddy is looking for a quiet home to live out his golden years. At 21 years old, he's done all of his adventuring and is ready to relax. We cannot imagine the heartbreak this precious boy has endured, losing his human after 20+ years together. But we know there is someone out there that wants to give a quiet senior boy his final home. Buddy is an easy dog and his asks are simple - soft beds, lots of naps, soft food, and a lap to share. He is good with other dogs and with cats.

What is my personality like: Buddy is 21! This elderly boy can buy lottery tickets we think he will be someone's good luck charm! Buddy came to us in early June of this year after his owner was sadly killed in a car accident. He was dearly loved as his owner took great care in his health. Surprisingly, Buddy does not take regular medications for any health conditions.

Buddy is looking for a soft place to land that is quiet and has a comfy bed. Buddy is active little and will wander between naps. He does need his food soft as he is a sweet toothless old man. We are seeking a home that will provide Buddy with comfort for his remaining days. Buddy is not ready to leave and needs humans who will provide the basic care as one would for any dog.

How do I act when I first meet new people: Friendly

Tips and Tidbits: Buddy is reportedly 21 years old. We celebrate his birthday as 6/2/2001.

House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
