My Story

Date into Rescue: 11/26/2022

Reason for being in rescue: Ferris was found as a stray and landed at a NC shelter. Carolina Poodle Rescue pulled him from the shelter.

Special Needs: Ferris is up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. Ferris has limited mobility in his right hind leg due to a fractured neck (sometime in his past) that was not treated. It does not slow him down. Our veterinary recognizes and noted that FHO surgery could be an option, but that recovery would be incredibly slow. Given that the leg does not affect Ferris's quality of life, we have elected not to do surgery. He is happy and mobile.

What kind of home would be best for me: Ferris is looking for a quiet home where he can spend his days napping and enjoying retirement life. Because of his rear leg he isn't up for long walks or hikes. He's more of a stroll around the yard sort of gentleman. Ferris does not like his rear leg to be touched (we can't blame him) and will let you know this. He enjoys giving cuddles on his terms, but isn't really a lap pet. Ferris is looking for a home that recognizes and supports his need for some independence and will show him kindness and love. He could live with other dogs and cats or be your only dog. You could be home all day or work outside the home.

What is my personality like: Ferris was found as a stray wandering the streets of North Carolina. He's had some sort of injury in the past to his neck which resulted in him dragging his right rear leg. We describe it as an extra pep in his step... it doesn't slow down Ferris or his zest for life.

Ferris is generally a happy-go-lucky guy. He has an independent soul and is happy in about any situation. Ferris appreciates pets and love, but is not a velcro dog. He lives in foster with other small and large dogs and is fine with them, but would also be happy as the only dog. Ferris's main requirements are a soft bed, a yard that he can sunbathe in, and a home that will allow him to live independently. Ferris is not house trained. He wears a belly band in his foster home and will be adopted out with belly bands for his new house as he continues to learn house manners.

How do I act when I first meet new people: Friendly

Tips and Tidbits: Ferris was found as a stray so we have no history on him. Based on his overall health and condition he is estimated at 7 years old. We celebrate his birthday as 11/21/2015.

House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
