My Story
Reason for being in rescue: owner release - no time for
Special Needs: Attention hog...it's all about Zeke. Then again when your poodle GQ you have every right to think it should be all about you. Zeke is prone to some allergy issues around his eyes - he needs to keep that glorious poodle snout well groomed. A doodle look would not work for him. Our suspicion is this is all from lack of grooming and it will resolve but our vet definitely feels he needs a clean shaven face for quite some time to come. He's really fair skinned and his skin needs to see the sun. Zeke is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative.
What kind of home would be best for me: Sweet Zeke. Life as a puppy was not as it should have been. Nice people, wrong dog/wrong type of dog who did not understand the poodle vibe and needs. He spent far too much time alone and not enough time basking in the sunshine and being the apple of his person's eye. Fortunately other than an overwhelming desire to be every part of your life (and that's a poodle for you anyway) he's a great dog despite the beginnings.
Zeke is looking for a home that can manage a large, active dog. He has spent too much time alone and is looking for a home where someone is home more than they are away (work from home, stay at home, active retirees, etc.). Zeke is happy and playful with other large dogs. He is too big to be left unattended with small dogs (he simply doesn't know his size and is a big, goofy boy). He has not been cat tested.
What is my personality like: Zeke is large in all things - body and spirit. He lives life fully and happily. Having said that, he also knows when it's time to chill. He's great in his crate as he knows that is the time for quiet and reflection. I think he would settle down at your feet happily, just to be near. He is very content thinking through his day and doing some snoozing when you ask him to.
He is playful and happy with other dogs his size - he can be a bit rough but it is his size. He's not old enough yet to know how big he is as that size thing keeps changing on him - we're close to full grown now although at 9 months, he still will fill out some. We've had him around since little dogs but he's so big we don't let him have freedom. He forgets where he puts his feet.
We are working on leash walking. He's being introduced to the Walk Your Dog With Love front walk harness. Leash work is important work and while he pulls some now, we think this will change as he gets more experience. He knows how to sit which is a great start to redirection with reward and then back to learning new, positive behaviors. He is well behaved in grooming.
The only reason Zeke has been here for 5 weeks without being written up and put up for adoption is time. Holidays and vacations got in the way. We are now all back and on track and somebody will get extraordinarily lucky with this incredible dog. He is just awesome I can't wait to see him walk proudly out on the end of a leash, head high and with a poodle lover who knows how to bring out the best in him.
How do I act when I first meet new people: Zeke loves everyone. He is happy and friendly with all that he meets. He likes men or women and is actively seeking attention from humans.
Tips and Tidbits: Zeke's actual birthdate is 3/4/2022.
House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Potential Adopters
Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.
Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
