My Story

Date into Rescue: 11/27/2022

Reason for being in rescue: owner release

Special Needs: Dobie is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. On 12/2/22 he had a dental with extractions.

What kind of home would be best for me: We are seeking a home with an experienced dog owner and someone who is home more than they're away. Dobie wants his person to be in eye sight almost all the time. He likes his person to be holding him or sitting with him while he rests. Dobie is a quiet guy as he ages. He would rather his home be quiet as well. He doesn't mind a little house play but for the most part, Dobie is happiest in his bed watching the excitement. He is fine with other dogs in his house but would prefer them to be about his size or anyone who'll give him space and not be rough with him. He would also be ok living with a cat or two if they give him space. Dobie would be okay with children visiting, but does not want to live with them full-time.

What is my personality like: Dobie was abandoned at a grooming facility along with 2 other dogs. We don't know why his owners never came back, but suspect it may be because he is not house trained. Louie needs a home that will work with him on house manners. It is going to take consistency, routine, LOTS of outdoor breaks, and time.

Dobie is laid back and enjoys watching life float on. He likes his bed and a warm lap to rest in. He doesn't expect too much and isn't too opinionated but he's got lots of love to give. Dobie's life goals is to give hugs, keep feet warm and give sweet check kisses. Once he's accomplished those for the day, he gives himself permission to sleep and wait for the next day.

Since being with us, Dobie is crate trained and enjoys his meals and bed time in his crate, although we do believe Dobie could live in his house without a crate being a requirement. He would ask that he have a quiet safe place or bed of his own that he can retreat to any time. Dobie is leash trained and walks well with a flat collar or harness. He sometimes can be a little fearful as the world is so much bigger and busier than he is. His owners should offer guidance and encourage him to move on and not worry.

Dobie has been a lap dog his whole life and therefore only knows to come and come up. He is smart and responsive and thrives to make his person happy and would work hard for a cookie. He could easily be trained to do some fun dance moves or other show off tricks!

How do I act when I first meet new people: Dobie is super affectionate and lives to give and get hugs. He will stand on his hind feet, place one paw on your leg and wave his other paw to get your attention. All he wants is a set of arms to hold him.

Tips and Tidbits: Dobie is estimated at 8 years old. We celebrate his birthday as 10/26/2014.

House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
