My Story
Reason for being in rescue: Hoarder seize
Special Needs: Fynn is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. On 1/4/23 he had a dental polishing. Fynn arrived in rescue with terrible skin, possibly from trauma (per our vet). He was prescribed Animax ointment for 7 days and has responded well. He is now ready for adoption.
What kind of home would be best for me: Fynn arrived in rescue as part of a hoarding case. He has never lived in a calm or loving home setting. Everything you teach him about this will be new. Fynn is best suited for life as an only dog. He is okay with some other large dogs, but is picky about his friends. We cannot blame him after living so much of his life having to defend what was his. Fynn's primary desire is for a home where someone is home more than they are away. He LOVES to be with his people. His ideal family is with active retirees who have experience with rescue and understand what patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement training looks like.
What is my personality like: Fynn is a velcro dog and will go to the ends of earth for a head pat. He seems to get along with anyone his size and medium energy. He can get a little overwhelmed with too much energy and sometimes will feel the need to speak up and give a correction. Some dogs are ok and some may find this offensive and Fynn only knows how to defend and not back away. He is not an initiator or mean but he will take care of himself. Unfortuntely he learned this behavior from being raised with a pack of dogs and no human structure or guidance which he desperately craves for.
Fynn walks well on a leash as long as there are minimal distractions. He is eager to learn and to please and we know he will continue to improve his leash manners and basic cues in his forever home. He is polite for his food and clean in his crate. Because he's never been in a house setting we would suggest Fynn have a crate in his new home. This will help him transition and keep him out of trouble. Finn is good for grooming, though baths sometimes make him a bit nervous. Over time and with every positive experience we believe he will overcome his fear.
Fynn is looking for someone to share his heart with.
How do I act when I first meet new people: Friendly and super polite. He almost always offers a sit at first. As soon as you reach down for a head pat hello he will stand up and offer his butt for extended scratches.
Tips and Tidbits: Fynn is estimated at 7 years old. We celebrate his birthday as 12/3/2015.
House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Potential Adopters
Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.
Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
