My Story

Date into Rescue: 1/6/2023

Reason for being in rescue: breeder release/retired after having 3 litters

Special Needs: Layla is spayed, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. On 01/25/23 Layla had a dental polishing. Layla is half of a bonded pair with her best friend Pepper. THEY WILL NOT BE SEPARATED AND WILL ONLY BE ADOPTED TO A HOME TOGETHER.

What kind of home would be best for me:  First and foremost, we are looking for a home with room in their heart for 2 dogs. Layla is bonded to her best friend Pepper. They have always lived together and will not be separated. Layla is a happy little girl who loves to play with her dog friends.  If you are not interested in adopting 2 dogs, please do not apply to adopt Pepper.

Layla would thrive with a fenced in yard but it is not absolutely essential if you are patient with teaching her leash skills. She really is curious about and likes people but as a breeder dog she has always been one of many. We think she will really learn to enjoy people once she has a home of her own. Older, considerate kids would be okay. She has no experience that we know of with children so we don’t think very young children (under 12) would work.

Layla would be ok with a working person as long as she has her buddy.  She is crate trained but they are not her favorite place.  If you want to continue crate training, you need to live in a single family home and not in a condo or apartment with shared walls. She is going to fuss and this may never resolve.  She just does not care for them although she is currently both eating and sleeping in a crate. For night, she settles down.

Layla’s person needs to believe in spoiling a dog with food. She only eats canned food or Fresh Pet.  None of that hard crunchy stuff for her thank you. She wants only the best.

What is my personality like: Layla is a sunny personality with lots of curiosity and desire to learn.  She was good with a 30 lb moyen poodle also although a dog that large may not be the playmate she likes. She really loves to play so her companion dog needs to be similar in size, age and energy. She is a terrier and she knows how to rumble and shake it up. She loves to pounce and rough house.

How do I act when I first meet new people:  She’s not going to throw herself at you but she is curious and will warm up quickly.

Tips and Tidbits: Layla’s actual birthdate is 2/26/2018.  Pepper is her sister.  They like each other although Pepper is more dependent on Layla than Layla is on Pepper.

House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
