My Story

Date into Rescue: 1/8/2023

Reason for being in rescue: owner release

Special Needs: Axel is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. On 01/17/23 Axel had a dental polishing and a lumpectomy to remove an epidermal cyst.

What kind of home would be best for me: Axel is a gentleman looking for a quieter home. He has always lived with another dog, but it is not a requirement in his forever home. His ideal family would be one or two adults and a few children. His behavior shows he could enjoy little ones to babysit. Axel would love someone home during the day, but it isn't a requirement as long as he has a break. He'd be perfect for active retirees looking for a dapper gentleman to tag along on life's adventures!

What is my personality like: Axel is an old soul type. He likes to take his time and look around and take everything in before he makes his move. He is stouthearted and sure of himself. His confidence comes from the depths of his soul. The first part of Axel's life has been sheltered in a home with an elderly lady.. While she did show her dogs that she loved them, she just couldn't care for herself and her two standards. Axel came to us with his furfriend Barkley. The boys do love each other, but let us know they are happy together or separated.

Axel does walk on a leash but his skills could use a refresher. He blends in nicely with his foster siblings and just wants a bed to sleep in. He doesn't play much with the other dogs or with toys, however he did find comfort in a chew bone and a big soft fluff bed on the floor. He seemed to relax and just take in the environment and all the dogs around him. His behavior showed he could live with or without other dogs in the home and this would also apply to dog savvy cats. We are working on his crate training and preparing him for his new home and we would suggest a crate be available to him in his new home. Axel is super responsive to voice and leash pressure so training him will be super fun and easy.

How do I act when I first meet new people: Axel will sniff and give a bark or two but settles quickly with voice redirection. He might then come up to say hello or he might find his bed to settle into. He is happy to see familiar faces and is confident enough not to get triggered by new faces.

Tips and Tidbits: Axel's owners stated he is 7 years old but did not provide an exact date. We celebrate his birthday as 11/27/2015.

House trained: Axel is working on house training in his foster home. Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
