My Story

Date into Rescue: 2/4/2023

Reason for being in rescue: owner release/life got overwhelming and it was better for the dogs to find a new home

Special Needs: Merlynn is spayed, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative.

What kind of home would be best for me: Merlynn is young and active and ready for adventure! Her ideal home has another dog who loves to play and a family with an active lifestyle. Merlynn loves to be the center of attention and will be happiest if you work from home, are an active retiree, or are otherwise at home more than you are away.

Merlynn is currently living with 5 small dogs ranging from a senior poodle to two active australian shepherds.  She also has a german shepherd and husky roommate.  She likes everyone but the husky - the husky is a dominant female.  That makes all the difference. Merlynn enjoys playing with dogs but can also be independent.  She is currently living with a laid back cat who does not engage with her so she ignores the cat. She also ignores the guinea pigs in their cage in the kitchen.  Merlynn has a demeanor well suited for children that have dog experience.

What is my personality like: Merlynn is a female golden doodle that looks very poodley except for her long, curly tail - and that amazing merle coat (very few poodles are merle).  She arrived at CPR as an owner release in early February. Life in general had gotten overwhelming and the owner realized Merlynn needed more than she had to offer. Merlynn is good with quite a few other dogs - she is with dogs from 20 to 70 lbs all day and is great.  At night, she is around several very small poodles and she is friends with all (except the pushy husky).

This young girl is looking for a home where she can be the center of attention and receive every drop of love and affection possible. In her previous life, Merlynn had lots of fenced wide open space to run and play. She would love farm life but is also perfectly happy to live in suburbia.  The key is people -  where here people are she will be also.  Merlynn is bright, eager to please and would love to go to doggie school with you.  She knows sit, bring and come. Come is a bit challenging until she bonds to you (give it about a week).  She brings toys, balls and socks and whatever else she finds she proudly brings to her person.  She is truly a retriever. She loves to bring things.  She is working on down and stay.  Those are hard because you are not near but she's trying.  She knows her name and respond to it.  She has been taught to give hugs, too.  She is respectful with this cue and backs down immediately if you tell her to.  Not everyone wants to be hugged by a big girl.

Merlynn occasionally gets carsick but she's learning that cars are actually pretty fun.  She now travels the 10 or so miles to the farm with her foster dad each day and is getting better and better at this whole car riding thing.  Car rides were infrequent in her former home.  Over time and with lots of short trips for practice she is getting better.

Merlynn is an overall wonderful girl and is sure to make you smile.  She is still a bit shy - she is not crazy about loud noises but how many of us really are:

How do I act when I first meet new people: Friendly

Tips and Tidbits: Merlynn's birthday is 3/24/2021.  Merlynn is very careful with her toys and beds.  Nothing gets ripped or torn on Merlynn's watch!

House trained: In her foster home, she has never made a mistake.  Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
