Biography
Bella Rita was originally released to a shelter by her owner who stated they could no longer care for her. That was in March of 2023. We put her up for adoption but, tragically, in June 2023 Bella Rita was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. The location and size of the mass make it inoperable. She was given 3 to 6 months to live in June of 2023.
Thanks to some caring veterenarians, Bella was started on an oral chemotherapy and it has worked beyond anyone's expectations. Bella is currently receiving this oral chemotherapy at a cost of $300/month. She must have this medication for life. Carolina Poodle Rescue is committed to providing Bella with the care she needs for life. Given her medical diagnosis, we found a fabulous foster home in Spartanburg SC, close to our facility and our primary vet. She requires a monthly check in with her primary care vet and her foster mom, Miss Carol, gets her to her appointments without fail.
While we consider Bella Rita to be in a hospice foster home, this lively dog has no idea she is so very special.. She spends most of her time looking for her foster mom's lap. She wants to be with her person at all times and does not want to be away from you. Bella Rita's foster home understand that she is sick and her lifespan unknown but she is giving Bella Rita every one of those unknown days because, other than taking her pill 3 times per week, Bella exhibits no illness at all. She may have inoperable thyroid cancer but she is living her best life and her quality of life is that of any normal dog. For whatever reason, her body is responding very well to the chemotherapy; we do not know how long it may afford her, but we know we had to give her a chance and it has worked.
What is my personality like? Bella is your average middle aged girl, she only wants every ounce of love you can offer her! She is not shy when meeting new people and greets them with friendly tail wags. This girl absolutely is a people dog, and only wants to be by your side at all times! She will bark at you until you give her exactly what she wants; to be held. Bella is very very sweet, loving, and affectionate. She loves to explore the outdoors and sniff out new things. She walks well on a leash, and loves to take things at her own pace on her own terms. Bella is definitely a diva, and what she says, goes! Bella would do well with another older dog in the home solely for companionship, or as an only dog. You can catch Bella sunbathing, snoozing on a comfy couch, or stuck to your side. Wherever you go, she follows.
Bella Rita is definitely a velcro dog and loves her humans with every ounce of her being.

Sponsorship
Can’t have a dog of your own? Have a soft spot for old, sick or hard to place dogs? It only takes a $20 a month donation for me to be your virtual dog! I need at least 10 virtual adopters (sponsors) to help cover my monthly costs. If I have medical challenges I need even more! The caregivers at Carolina Poodle Rescue will do the rest. Just think, without ever having to leave your home, you can have your very own online dog that will send you update emails, make Facebook posts, and be eternally grateful for your support! Go to the donate link at the top of the page for instructions as to how to donate. Questions? Email: cprsosdogs@carolinapoodlerescue.org
