Biography

Lola’s story is about the sweetest, most beautiful Standard Poodle whose life was saved by Carolina Poodle Rescue. In the summer of 2023, she was left at a shelter, with no further information about why she was dropped there. She was a little deaf and had some vision problems, there was a heart murmur, and her coat was dirty and needed to be groomed. She was placed in a foster home with the hope she’d be adopted.

But then she had a series of tonic-clonic (grand mal) seizures. The shelter determined that it couldn’t place Lola due to the seizures and other medical issues, and she’d need to be euthanized. The foster said she understood and would pick Lola up for a one last lunchtime walk and a goodbye. It was at this point that Carolina Poodle Rescue intervened and took Lola in. CPR placed her with a loving temporary foster, who found a long-term foster that had plenty of experience with epileptic, aged dogs.

When Lola arrived at her new foster home, she was sweet, but quiet and reserved. At first, we wondered whether there was a medical problem because she was so quiet. But with time, she started to open up – she had just been through so much change, with four homes in a few short weeks. She started to explore, take short walks, and show off her greatest talent: power-napping.

Her epilepsy has been well managed, and each morning she wags her tail and does a spin when she knows she’s about to get her treat (a.k.a. her epilepsy medicine). She insists on getting breakfast in bed – she doesn’t like to get up to eat, so we bring it to her. And she pokes her cute snout in when she wants you to pet her. It doesn’t matter if you’re busy … when she’s ready for attention, she’s persistent at getting it!

This quiet but affectionate sweetheart is living out her days with plenty of napping, lots of rest, and all the attention she wants. All of that would have been lost if she’d been euthanized, but CPR’s intervention allowed her to continue receiving all the love this beautiful creature deserves.

Sponsorship

Can’t have a dog of your own? Have a soft spot for old, sick or hard to place dogs? It only takes a $20 a month donation for me to be your virtual dog! I need at least 10 virtual adopters (sponsors) to help cover my monthly costs.  If I have medical challenges I need even more! r having to leave your home, you can have your very own online dog that will send you update emails, make Facebook posts, and be eternally grateful for your support!  Go to the donate link at the top of the page for instructions as to how to donate.
