My Story

Date into Rescue: 07/17/2024

Reason for being in rescue: Honey was found as a stray and landed in a rural SC shelter. Carolina Poodle Rescue pulled her from the local shelter.

Special Needs: Honey is spayed, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. Honey is a large dog; our best guess is that she is a mix between a golden retriever and a great Pyrenees. Only a DNA test will tell for sure. She absolutely sheds and is not hypoallergenic.

What kind of home would be best for me: Honey, she moves like it too. Chill and slow anywhere she goes. She's as sweet as honey too. Preferring to keep to herself Honey would work phenomenally as an only dog. She plays well with other dogs and enjoys her time with them. In her time with us Honey has shown an extremely sweet side that reminds us much of a mother dog. She very clearly cares for her furry companions and makes sure they are safe. She is confident in her stride and takes life one day at a time. We think Honey would fare well with children, she is a gentle giant and kindly offers herself up for pets.

What is my personality like: Honey is the perfect example of another AWESOME dog that ended up a stray and landed in rescue. We have to believe that her happy-go-lucky, loves everyone personality kept her safe on the streets and is going to be the ultimate ticket to her forever home.

We cannot stress how absolutely sweet Honey is - it's in her name! Honey is a kind soul and simply goes with the flow. Her bursts of energy are short lived and once she has had her fill she prefers to sniff and grass and peruse the perimeter of the fence.

Honey is not a fan of her crate but will go in without hesitation. Once inside, she is clean and quiet. Honey does bark sometimes when outside, usually when there is a commotion she cannot parent because of a fence line. When Honey knows she is going somewhere she gets a little more pep in her step. She's still working on leash training; we're uncertain if she's had any experience with a leash prior to rescue. Honey is learning 'wait' and 'sit' with her caregiver.

How do I act when I first meet new people: Honey has never met a stranger and from the moment you meet her she engulfs you in her sticky sweetness that you just can't help but to love!

Tips and Tidbits: Honey was found as a stray so we have absolutely no history on her. Based on her overall health and condition she is estimated at 3 years old. We celebrate her birthday 07/23/2021.

House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
