My Story
Reason for being in rescue: Gilbert was seized in a hoarding case
Special Needs: Gilbert is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative.
What kind of home would be best for me: Gilbert would adapt well to a variety of living situations, whether it’s a house or apartment so long as he gets extended play time outside. Gilbert will do well with a single person, a couple, or a family. Gilbert will not be adopted to families with children younger than five years old.
Gilbert’s life has always been filled with other dogs. From the start it was his brothers and now it is the variety pack that lives in the house here at the farm with him. He would do well in a home with another dog to model his behavior after. If you do not have another dog, Gilbert needs a solid plan for play and socialization with other dogs.
Socialization occurs when dogs are off leash and free to be themselves, unencumbered by human restraints (other than the fence that keeps them safely contained). Socialization times would be for instance, inviting a neighbor or friend over with their dog to play in your fenced yard or going to someone else’s home to play in their fence yard. Socialization time could be doggy daycare. Socialization time could be a group walk if you include a playtime at the end of it. Training classes do not always include socialization time. Some puppy classes do include a period of time at the end where the dogs can romp and play together. This would be perfectly acceptable. Time can also take place inside the home, it does not have to be an outdoor area, as long as the dogs are free to interact with each other without leashes or other restraints.
If you’re looking for an adventurous, happy-go-lucky pup who’ll be by your side for all of life’s fun moments, Gilbert is your guy! He’ll bring smiles, playfulness, and unconditional love into your life. Come meet this sweet boy and see for yourself why everyone calls him “Mr. Happy Feet!”
What is my personality like: Say hello to Gilbert, or as his caregivers call him, Mr. Happy Feet. Gilbert is a joyful little puppy looking for his forever home. He was surrendered to an animal shelter with his two brothers after the passing of his owner. Now he’s ready to find a loving family to share his infectious happiness with!
Gilbert is a true social butterfly! He’s friendly, playful, and loves everyone he meets, both people and dogs. His signature move - his little dance-like strut when he walks – it’s like he’s always in a good mood and ready to spread some joy. He’s also quite vocal and seems to “talk” back when you chat with him. Whether he’s prancing around or snuggling up for a nap, Gilbert is always a bundle of happiness in motion!
This little guy is a puppy so he will need a lot of training. He’ll need to be taught to walk on a leash, he’ll need taught all his basic commands, and he’ll need a strict potty schedule, so he’ll learn to do his business outside. His adopter cannot be away from home for more than four hours per day. You must provide multiple potty breaks throughout the day and night. Gilbert is a young boy and needs play breaks as well as frequent and consistent potty times to aid in potty training. He thrives on attention, companionship, and frequent breaks to help with his potty training.
Gilbert is a puppy and has all the qualities one associates with puppies, he’s happy, playful, loving, and untrained.
How do I act when I first meet new people: Hi! Love me and play with me and be my best friend, ok! That’s Gilbert.
Tips and Tidbits: There was no information or records found on the scene when Gilbert was seized by animal control. Our staff and the shelter vet have estimated his birthdate to be on or about 12/27/23 based on teeth and overall behavior.
House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule if a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Potential Adopters
Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.
Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
