Why am I with a rescue group? Carter and his litter mates originally came to CPR in 2011. Carter was adopted by a young (high school) student and her family when he was a puppy. Sadly, lives change and Carter's young owner took a different path then the one she was originally on. She left her home and could not take Carter with her. Her parents like Carter but want a life where they can travel. Her sister tried to bring Carter into her home but Carter did not care for her boyfriend so Carter came back to the farm to try again. It is our commitment to our dogs to always be here for them.
With those he loves, Carter is affectionate, happy and a lot of fun. He loves to snuggle and will happily sleep next to you all night. He is eager to please and eager to learn. He knows the basics but would really benefit from some advanced obedience. In his previous home, he was reactive on leash towards dogs and people but we're working on that and he's much better.
Carter is very such the “take it at my own pace” kind of dog. He has a strong personality and he has never been afraid to tell anyone (dog or human) that he wants them to give him space. He can be grumpy and a little stubborn at times but that attitude is just part of who he is (not everyone wants constant attention and that’s okay). Carter is loved by every caregiver that interacts with him and has won their hearts within a short span of time of meeting them. Carter can be very affectionate at times and offer the best kisses and hugs. He likes to nap with his people and has taken a liking to cuddling up on the couch. Along with our caregiver’s hearts he has also won over our very own director’s heart and has found a place inside her home as a foster. He has became part of her ‘pack’ and loves to go out and run with his other ‘pack’ members. Despite his oddities he found love and empathy here at the farm with an amazing staff that accepts him for just who he is.
Carter is a one of a kind dog that you only get the chance to meet once in a lifetime. His caregivers can assure you that one of the most amazing things about Carter is just how you can look into his eyes to tell what he is asking for (I want food, the couch, a toy, ect…). Carter is a beloved member of the Carolina Poodle Rescue family and will forever have a place in each staff member’s heart.
Carter is happy living in rescue with our Director. In September of 2021, Carter was diagnosed with cancer. He will live his days (or years) with us in rescue.
Can’t have a dog of your own? Have a soft spot for old, sick or hard to place dogs? It only takes a $20 a month donation for me to be your virtual dog! I need at least 10 virtual adopters (sponsors) to help cover my monthly costs. If I have medical challenges I need even more! r having to leave your home, you can have your very own online dog that will send you update emails, make Facebook posts, and be eternally grateful for your support! Go to the donate link at the top of the page for instructions as to how to donate. Questions? Email: email@example.com
