Biography

David is a dog's dog, plain and simple. He needs a dog to thrive in any environment. David is very untrusting at first, you have to teach him that you deserve his love. David always has to have at least 2 large dogs in his home. He does best with buddies to follow, he is always a follower. David can learn to be affectionate with his human in a home, he has been in a foster before where he showed plenty of potential to learn to be a pet. David can do lots of normal dog things once he is comfortable with the humans caring for him. We do feel David will always be uncomfortable and unpredictable in new situations, at least until he is much older and more established in a home. David is not a dog that can handle chaos, he needs routine to follow and a calm environment.

David has quirks as most breeder dogs do. David can be neurotic in a crate sometimes, spinning in circles as you close the crate/ barking excessively. He does not at all hate his crate, in fact he prefers to go in it when he's uncomfortable but in high stress situations such as the crate being closed he does act off the walls. This can be unsettling for someone with minimal dog experience, David is always going to need someone who has a good understanding of dog behavior and someone who has worked closely with dogs for quite some time. Davids other challenge comes at night time. David gets spooked very easy at night, if he feels like there is a threat in his yard (a person he doesn't know well walking through) he will absolutely run up and nip at their rear end. He does not like to not have clear vision when it is dark. David has nipped at our facility a few times with newer caregivers walking through the fields at night. Now that we have set up good lighting in each yard, he has not had another issue.

David is absolutely stunning and that means everyone wants to pet him - David does not want this. David is a stay at home kind of guy because of this. David will be perfectly happy with a fenced in yard, canine friends, and a stable owner who adores him regardless of his timid behavior. David can be weird with the wrong person or environment but with the right person who wants to give a dog a home, he will be affectionate and easy going dog. David is a dog that takes time but the more time you give him the more he will love you.

David has a favorite caregiver who has known him for a long time, he would do anything for her. All she did was love him from afar until he was ready to show her the dog he can be.

Sponsorship

Can’t have a dog of your own? Have a soft spot for old, sick or hard to place dogs? It only takes a $20 a month donation for me to be your virtual dog!  I need at least 10 virtual adopters (sponsors) to help cover my monthly costs.  If I have medical challenges I need even more!  The caregivers at Carolina Poodle Rescue will do the rest.  Just think, without ever having to leave your home, you can have your very own online dog that will send you update emails, make Facebook posts, and be eternally grateful for your support!  Go to the donate link at the top of the page for instructions as to how to donate.
