My Story
Reason for being in rescue: Buddy (AKASlick) was born into our rescue when his mom and dad were lovingly surrendered by their owners. He was returned nearly six years later when his human passed away.
Special Needs: Buddy is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. He arrived back in rescue with a severe bacterial infection deep in his ear. This has been treated. Full medical records will be provided to his new family.
What Kind of Home Would Be Best for Me: Buddy is a big dog who lives life on his terms. He’s used to being by his human’s side, so he’ll gladly go wherever you go — whether it’s a hike in the woods, a walk on the beach, or a trip to the grocery store. He rides well in the car and enjoys jamming out to Aerosmith and Dokken (yes, he has great taste in music!). And yes, he’s always down for a pup cup stop!
True to the Great Dane nature, Buddy isn't an overly active dog. He needs regular, consistent exercise but isn't a marathon or sprint sort of boy. A smaller yard is okay with him as well. Buddy has always been an only dog, and it shows. He is okay with other large dogs but really prefers to be your one and only. No small dogs or cats for this boy.
Buddy requires an experienced owner that has large dog experience and is willing to let Buddy live life on his terms. He has a stubborn streak (don't we all sometimes!) and will grumble to let you know if he doesn't want to do something. He is not suited for a home with children. Buddy is so loyal and looking for a best friend.
What is my personality like: Meet Buddy — a big boy looking for a second chance at a loving home. Buddy was originally adopted from us nearly six years ago, but he was recently returned after the heartbreaking loss of his beloved human. Born right here on the farm, Buddy once knew this place well, but after years in a cozy home, it now feels unfamiliar. He’s used to being with his person all the time — sharing the couch, sleeping in the bed, and being a constant companion. He has a heart as loyal and big as his 100+ pound body.
His previous owner loved him dearly, with the family describing him as a “big old baby” who loves to give kisses and cuddles. Sadly, they were unable to keep him when his human passed, but they knew the kindest thing to do was return him to us so he could find a new loving home. Buddy hopes to hit the jackpot again — to find another human who will love and spoil him just like his first did.
Buddy is smart! He’s completed training and proudly comes with a "degree" from his trainer. He knows commands like sit, stay, and shake (with either paw!). He’s eager to please and loves learning new tricks, especially if treats are involved. He is a little overweight — the result of being loved a little more than exercised — but with some activity and continued training, he’ll be back in shape in no time. His white muzzle may make him look older, but he’s not even six yet and still full of youthful energy.
How do I act when I first meet new people: Buddy loves everyone he meets. He’s a big cuddle bug who will happily snuggle up on the couch or in bed with you, just like he did with his first human.
Tips and Tidbits: Buddy's birthday is 12/11/2019.
House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule if a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Potential Adopters
Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.
Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
