Meet An Adoptable Dog

Biography

Marie arrived as a rescue in August of 2020 with her pack and have been here since then. She was part of a feral colony living too close to roads, with neighbors threatening harm to the dogs if they weren't contained. Marie does well as part of a pack. She is extremely cautious with people and is learning to trust our caregivers.

Standoffish and loud Marie lets herself be known while trying to stay at the back of the pack. Marie is always the last to come inside to eat, she's always the last to eat. She always stays as far away from you as possible, even when treats are presented. However, Marie has a sweet disposition, and beneath that aloof jaded outer shell Marie is timid and scared. She seeks leadership and guidance. She simply wants someone, dog or human to tell her what to do.

Isolated and by herself Maria does shut down some but with gentle encouragement Marie will very slowly open up to you. She will eat out of your hand if you give her time and offer soft repetition. Marie is very much a lounger. She wants to sleep in the sun all day and when she's not laying in the sun she's napping in the shade. Marie knows how to relax, with how much time she spends skirting around and away from you it's no wonder. She definitely has high anxiety. She's just so alert, always watching for the next thing, always listening for a noise. She knows when the wind is going to blow because she's just always conscious, even amongst her napping. She is so contradictory to herself because she just doesn't know who she is. She is an absolute character and it's hard not to love her.

Only a very experienced owner that understands shy, under socialized, or feral dogs will be able to adopt Marie. She needs another confident dog in the home, a canine buddy to follow, learn from and model behaviors. She will take cues from your do on how to trust more and on how to become a good dog and life-long companion. We have seen Marie hop a five-foot tall fence so her adopter's home will need a fence six feet tall or taller.

We will continue to work with Marie with the hope that she may one day find a forever home. As of now she needs our, and your, support to start down that path.

Other tips and tidbits: Our vet estimates Marie's birthday to be on or about 8/31/2018.

House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Sponsorship

Can’t have a dog of your own? Have a soft spot for old, sick or hard-to-place dogs? It only takes a $20 a month donation for me to be your virtual dog!  I need at least 10 virtual adopters (sponsors) to help cover my monthly costs.  If I have medical challenges I need even more!  The caregivers at Carolina Poodle Rescue will do the rest.  Just think, without ever having to leave your home, you can have your very own online dog that will send you update emails, make Facebook posts, and be eternally grateful for your support!  Go to the donate link at the top of the page for instructions as to how to donate.
