My Story
Reason for being in rescue: Aubon arrived in rescue as part of a feral colony
Special Needs: Aubon is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and heartworm negative.
What kind of home would be best for me: Aubon is a beautiful project. He has only known life as part of a feral colony and then in rescue. Everything you teach him will be new. Aubon requires an experienced owner, ideally with experience with under socialized dogs. He absolutely must have another calm but confident dog to learn from and model behavior after. Aubon is fine with dogs of all sizes and with cats. He is not suited for a home with children. Aubon will take time and patience and lots of positive reinforcement training.
What is my personality like: Aubon came from a feral colony. He had never lived inside, never been part of a routine, and knew nothing other than being part of a pack of dogs. With a lot of time and dedication from caring caregivers this boy has come a LONG way. You can tell when interacting with him that behind those beautiful eyes there is a lot of thoughts and intelligence.
Aubon is a dog that has been hand fed by multiple caregivers for months now to help him realize that humans aren't that bad and that he can learn to trust them. He needs a very experienced owner with knowledge on positive dog training. He needs stable routine in his life to thrive. He has this here at the rescue and changing his environment completely by going into a home he may take some steps backwards in progress, but with time in a patient home dedicated to his success he will come around.
Aubon is very food motivated which is great for his training and leash walking is coming along quite nicely. He is a very gentle boy that is curious and eager to please. Everything you teach him will be new, but he will absolutely reward you with his loyalty and love!
How do I act when I first meet new people: Shy but curious
Tips and Tidbits: Aubon arrived as part of a feral colony, for whom the owners had very little information on the dogs. He is estimated at 18 months old, but this is a guess based on his overall health and condition. We celebrate his birthday as 10/31/2020.
House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Potential Adopters
Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.
Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
