Biography
Ruby was part of a hoarding case from the Gastonia NC animal shelter. For some reason, we only received one from this case but Ruby is so unique, so quirky and so unusual, it was probably a good thing. I am not sure we could have taken too many of Ruby!
Ruby loves her creature comforts. Her safe spot is right in the middle of the sofa, always curled up on a soft blanket. Her favorite time is meal time, breakfast or dinner, it does not matter. Her favorite friend is Lily the chihuahua. The two are often found cuddled together in the sacred spot on the middle of the sofa and there is often a lot of mutual grooming going on of ears and eyes.
Ruby has never decided sleeping with us is okay like Lily did, so when her friend disappears for the night, she has found the dog bed under the kitchen counter and that has become her second favorite safe spot.
Feral, according to my online dictionary, means a dog in its' "natural state' - or not domesticated. Domesticated means we humans have shaped and molded that animal into something we could use. Those uses can be many and varied - anything from companionship, to hunting partners to those who pull sleds and carts. Ruby is not feral but she is not domesticated, either. Ruby is unique.
Ruby's personality is actually quite pleasant. She never barks. I have never heard one sound from her. She uses her radar ears to express her emotions instead. Ears up, she is alert. Ears semi up, she is relaxed. Ears down, she is dozing. It's a great indicator. It's also fun to watch her ears as she takes in the world around her. You've heard of wearing your heart on your sleeve? Ruby wears hers on her head and her ears tell everything she is thinking and feeling.
Ruby is another one that is a touch me not for us. Like our others, she will let you capture her for necessary grooming (mostly nail trims) and vetting but otherwise, Ruby prefers that hands that are human never touch her. But, she is never far away from you. Ruby may not want to be touched, but otherwise, she likes spending time with her humans. She can often be found close by. If we all go upstairs, if you get quiet for a while and then look down, she is in the hallway, trying to see what we are all doing in that bedroom. If you head outside to the yard, she heads with you. I am waiting for her to slip out the gate one day on a pack walk with all of the rest of us. I can see it happening. She's gotten close but not quite had enough courage to do it just yet.I am looking forward to the day she does.
Ruby is another one of our dogs who could be placed in just the right home. Ruby's home would understand that human touch, to some dogs, is not soothing and is very scary. She prefers not thank you. But she is neat, clean, and quiet. She would always need a canine buddy and she would need a fenced in yard. She and Lily would enjoy living together. Ruby's human would have to understand that for Ruby, it is admire me from afar. She does not ask for much. Just that soft spot on the couch.
Sponsorship
Can’t have a dog of your own? Have a soft spot for old, sick or hard to place dogs? It only takes a $20 a month donation for me to be your virtual dog! I need at least 10 virtual adopters (sponsors) to help cover my monthly costs. If I have medical challenges I need even more! The caregivers at Carolina Poodle Rescue will do the rest. Just think, without ever having to leave your home, you can have your very own online dog that will send you update emails, make Facebook posts, and be eternally grateful for your support! Go to the donate link at the top of the page for instructions as to how to donate. Questions? Email: cprsosdogs@carolinapoodlerescue.org
