Ernest arrived in foster in November 2021 as part of a large hoarding case. Named "Tiny Tim" at the time, he had been born into a feral colony, had likely never set a foot in a home, and was digging his way out of the yard where he was being held to go on adventures.

Ernest moved into foster pretty quicky to learn how to dog, and there he has stayed. His foster family quickly renamed him Ernest - a recognition of his silly antics. When he arrived in foster Ernest thought couches were the potty (despite spending plenty of time in his fenced yard), kitchen islands were perfect for sleeping (despite having as many beds as he could want) and humans were for the birds.

Thankfully, Ernest now knows that the potty is outside, he can use his jumping skills for the baby gates inside, and that humans can be okay. Especially if you are foster dad. 

Frequently called Ernie P (Ernie P Crazy Dog if you really want to be technical) or just E, Ernest is a dog's dog. He loves his canine foster brothers and sisters. He's especially bonded to the standard poodles and believes he is a big boy. Ernest has helped raise several litters of puppies (we know - not the best role model, but he loves to play). And happily ignores the 3 cats that also call his foster home, home.

Ernest arrived feral and he will likely always be a little feral. He lives life on his terms, always. In his foster home, he follows his human dad around so closely that if you stop he will bump into you. He greets his foster parents happily when they enter the house. He loves to sit on the back of the couch - near enough to see and smell you, but not close enough to touch. And at night he sleeps pressed against a leg.

But that is only for his foster parents. Visitors are completely unwelcome in Ernest's world and he will bark and yell and tell you he does not appreciate you. Pet sitters are an adventure... Ernest only likes to share space with his dedicated humans. And going in public for events is absolutely, positively off the table.

Ernest is surprisingly good in a car. If he is wearing a harness and you put him in a public setting, you would think he is a social dog. He allows his foster dad to pick him up and will tolerate his foster mom holding him and kissing him on occasionally. He is perfectly adorable, consistently curious, and full of personality.

The good news for Ernest is that he is home. His foster parents love him completely and unconditionally. He is the perfect fit in an imperfect pack. He will not be adopted to another home. And that truly is what sanctuary life is all about.
