Biography

Brandi was surrendered to rescue by owners that loved her very much. She had clearly been her mom's princess and took taking care of mom and guarding her lap very seriously. When mom's health declined, she reached out to rescue for help.

When we first saw the photos of Brandi it was an easy yes. Very small dog. Dark chocolate coloring. Soulful eyes. Described as loving and sweet. All of these are very true for Brandi. And yet, in her transport to our rescue, she showed us what she is made of when she doesn't like something. And that "made of" involves teeth - as her transporter found out when he reached over to pet her and calm her nerves. Needless to say neither of them has ever forgotten their first meeting!

We suspect that Brandi spent most of her early years sitting on her mom's lap. She likely growled at people if they approached and was perhaps rewarded for "cute" behavior out of love for her mom. But what is cute as a puppy can really escalate as a dog ages, and that is certainly the case with Brandi.

95% of the time, Brandi is the sweetest dog you will ever meet. Affectionately named Meatball because of her round shape and dark coloring, she is a bundle of energy and fun. Our meatball loves squeaky toys, plush beds, riding in the car and visits from her favorite people. She happily runs down the stairs as soon as she hears a familiar voice, bouncing and jumping in delight to be held and loved.

The other 5% is the reason Brandi is sanctuary and will not be placed for adoption. Brandi thinks she weighs 150 pounds. If you move and she doesn't like it, she will bite. She has night terrors and will bite in her sleep if she is touched or startled. She loves other dogs but will quickly remind new dogs that she is the boss, frequently with her teeth.

Lucky for Brandi, she has a foster family that loves her teeth and all and is committed to her. They know her boundaries and her barriers and work very hard to avoid her teeth. She has an adopted mom that visits weekly, grooms her, and for whom Brandi's heart sings anytime she hears her voice. And she had a foster dad that loved this tiny terrorist beyond words, despite her sometimes naughty antics. How lucky can a girl be!!

Sponsorship

Can’t have a dog of your own? Have a soft spot for old, sick or hard to place dogs? It only takes a $20 a month donation for me to be your virtual dog! I need at least 10 virtual adopters (sponsors) to help cover my monthly costs.  If I have medical challenges I need even more! r having to leave your home, you can have your very own online dog that will send you update emails, make Facebook posts, and be eternally grateful for your support!  Go to the donate link at the top of the page for instructions as to how to donate.
