Biography
Poppy was purchased from a breeder from someone who went looking to buy a puppy and got talked into the adult dog instead. Since we have no medical history at all, we don't know when Poppy's pooping problems first started but the new owner, who purchased her in the Fall of 2023, noticed immediately that his new puppy was very different. After a few weeks, they put her outside for the little pup would not stop defecating - everywhere and very, very oddly.
Outside for a 5 lb dog is never a good place to be. A family member intervened on Poppy's behalf and asked us to take her. Her family did not want her. She was a disappointment to them, the little pup who did nothing but poop. But please note - during the time we were talking with the family member, not once was Poppy's odd potty habits brought up. Not once. They simply wanted her gone. So she came to us.
It took less than a day to realize something was very, very different about the little tiny black spot of a dog. Very different. She would strain and strain and the teeniest strand of feces would come out. It was about the size of a piece of thin spaghetti.
We've taken Poppy to 3 different vets and all say the same thing. What is broken for Poppy can't be fixed. So we're going to love her. She has a routine and she loves the farm. She loves hanging out at the barn and watching all the activities out there. She has a special sleeping area, a soft sides exercise pen, at night with a soft, comfy bed and a pad so when she gets up, several times, she can do what needs to be done and go back to sleep. Other than sleeping, she can often be found in foster mom's arms, hanging out on the couch watching tv, or romping in the yard. Some of the vets recommended we let Poppy go on to the Rainbow Bridge but we've opted to wait this out. We've opted for life for Poppy. Her problem is unusual, and we don't know if it will affect her quantity of life. She has a great quality here at the poodle farm. We know she can live out a good, happy life with us for however long that may be.
Sponsorship
Can’t have a dog of your own? Have a soft spot for old, sick or hard to place dogs? It only takes a $20 a month donation for me to be your virtual dog! I need at least 10 virtual adopters (sponsors) to help cover my monthly costs. If I have medical challenges I need even more! The caregivers at Carolina Poodle Rescue will do the rest. Just think, without ever having to leave your home, you can have your very own online dog that will send you update emails, make Facebook posts, and be eternally grateful for your support! Go to the donate link at the top of the page for instructions as to how to donate. Questions? Email: cprsosdogs@carolinapoodlerescue.org
