My Story
Reason for being in rescue: Abandoned by owners who were prosecuted for animal cruelty
Special Needs: Kobe is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. Kobe arrived in rescue with no records. Our best guess is that he is a shih tzu mix. He definitely has the shih tzu sass. Only a DNA test will tell his full DNA. We cannot guarantee he is hypoallergenic or will not shed.
What kind of home would be best for me: Kobe’s forever home will need to meet some specifics. His family must have the time to be home more often than not, as he craves companionship and security. A quieter, adult-only household would be best, where he won’t feel overwhelmed and can truly relax. Kobe needs an experienced adopter that can offer him patience, consistency and time. Kobe has lived with other dogs, but will be fine as the only dog.
Kobe is going to choose his person. He is picky - we can't blame him. It won't be instantaneous. He doesn’t ask for much — just a safe place, gentle hands, another dog by his side, and a family who will love him for who he is, scars and all. Kobe is ready to leave his painful past behind and step into the peaceful, love-filled life he has always deserved.
What is my personality like: Meet Kobe – A Gentle Soul Searching for Trust & Love. Kobe is a sweet Shih Tzu boy who has endured more than any dog should. He came into rescue after his previous family faced charges of animal cruelty, and it’s clear from what we know that he and his siblings were not treated kindly. Despite this rough start, Kobe’s heart is still full of love — he just needs the right people to help him feel safe enough to share it.
Kobe loves attention and affection. Once he trusts you, he will happily soak up all the love you have to give, even leaning in and practically begging for more snuggles and pets. But that trust is not given lightly — it must be earned, and sometimes not everyone will win it. Because of his past, Kobe is cautious and protective of his heart. He’s not looking for chaos or unpredictability; he’s looking for peace, patience, and understanding.
Because Kobe did not receive proper care in his former life, many things about being a beloved inside pet are brand new to him. He will need gentle, patient training with things like leashes, collars, and grooming — all of which are still unfamiliar to him. With kindness and encouragement, Kobe will learn quickly, but his family must be ready to guide him at his pace.
If you have patience, love, and another furry friend waiting at home, Kobe may just be the missing piece of your heart.
How do I act when I first meet new people: Kobe can come off a little aloof at first — kind of like a tiny royal who's unsure whether you’ve brought him tea or treachery. Though cautious at first, Kobe is incredibly sweet and loving once he feels comfortable.
Tips and Tidbits: Kobe arrived in rescue with no history. Based on his overall health and condition he is estimated at 1 year. We celebrate his birthday 06/20/2024.
House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Potential Adopters
Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.
Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
