Biography
Why am I with a rescue group?
Lyla came to us after a group of Good Samaritans stepped in to care for the dogs of a late breeder. They so realized that 40+ little toy poodles is a lot of work and more than they could handle. They reached out to Carolina Poodle Rescue and surrendered the dogs.
Lyla is a lowenergy, shy, and sensitive dog who needs plenty of patience and time to feel safe. She is fearful of new people and needs slow, gentle introductions with both women and men. Despite her hesitation with humans, she does very well with small dogs.
The hard part? Lyla will bite and has.
She would thrive in a calm, experienced home with another confident dog to help her build trust and show her the world is safe. Lyla is still working on leash skills, crate training, and house training, and she will need patient, positive guidance as she settles in. Handling is difficult for her at first, and she needs adopters who understand fearful dogs and can give her the space she needs, but also help her be her best self without overwhelming her.
Her favorite things are toys and other dogs. With a quiet environment, consistency, and understanding, Lyla has the potential to blossom into a wonderful companion.
