My Story
Reason for being in rescue: Roo Roo was surrendered to rescue in the fall of 2020. Sadly his favorite human passed away earlier this year. Roo Roo prefers women. His mom tried, it simply didn't work. She returned him to rescue in October of 2025.
Special Needs: Roo Roo is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. Roo is a resource guarder. He requires a very experienced owner, ideally someone with dogs that have strong opinions.
What kind of home would be best for me: Roo Roo is looking for an experienced adopter or family who understands dogs with strong personalities and knows how to set clear boundaries while offering kindness and structure. Roo Roo has an affinity for men, and with confident, respectful handling, he thrives. Roo Roo cannot live with cats. He will chase them relentlessly.
Roo Roo’s perfect home will be calm, adult-only, and structured, with someone who understands how to read dog body language and manage a confident, opinionated pup. His adopter should have experience with small dogs who like to have their space respected. He does best in a home where his boundaries are honored but his affection is reciprocated. Once he trusts you, Roo Roo is a total sweetheart who loves companionship and will happily curl up next to you for some quiet time.
Don’t let his big personality scare you off — it’s part of what makes him special. Underneath that confident exterior is a loyal, loving heart that just wants to feel safe, respected, and adored.
What is my personality like: Are you looking for a dog with personality, confidence, and a little bit of spunk - Look no further than Roo Roo, a 10-year-old Cockapoo mix who knows exactly what he wants out of life — and isn’t shy about letting you know it!
Roo Roo is a dog with opinions, and that’s part of his charm. He’s spirited, expressive, and full of character. While he may have a big personality packed into a small body, Roo Roo also has a softer side that loves attention, affection, and quality time with his favorite people. He loves a tennis ball and loves to play chase the ball. His cues he knows include sit, down, high five and paw. He's very bright and would benefit from more training.
Roo Roo didn’t have the easiest start to life. During his early years, he lived in a home where children would chase him and poke him with a plastic sword. Because of that experience, Roo Roo can feel uncomfortable around children and cannot be placed in a home with kids. Those past experiences have shaped him, but they’ve also shown how resilient he is — Roo Roo still has so much love to give to the right person.
Roo Roo is a funny little guy who knows what makes him happy! He’s very attached to his things and can become protective of them. Roo Roo does guard his belongings and has been known to snap at people over things he has claimed, but once he’s calmly removed from the area and his leash is taken, he quickly goes back to his normal, happy self — ready to love, cuddle, and head out on his next adventure. We’ve learned to use this to his advantage, especially with his leash, which he considers one of his best friends. Walks are the highlight of his day; his tail will wag with excitement the moment he sees you reach for the leash. He loves exploring the world and will happily strut by your side.
While Roo Roo loves being around his person and enjoys pets and attention, he also values his independence. He’s perfectly content to spend time alone relaxing in his favorite spot when you’re busy.
Roo Roo is truly one of a kind — independent yet affectionate, bold yet loving. He’s a dog who will make you laugh, surprise you with his charm, and fill your life with companionship once he bonds with you.
How do I act when I first meet new people: Friendly and happy.
Tips and Tidbits: Roo Roo's birthday is 4/26/2015
House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Potential Adopters
Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.
Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
