My Story

Date into Rescue: 05/17/2025

Reason for being in rescue: Surrendered by owner

Special Needs: Leo is vision impaired. Based on his age we have elected not to put him through surgery to attempt to restore some vision. He has adapted well to his vision impairment. Leo is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. On 06/27/25 Leo had a dental with extractions. Leo is a poodle mix. He has a curly coat. Because we do not know his breed mix, we cannot guarantee that he is hypoallergenic.

What kind of home would be best for me: Leo is a charming senior gent with a heart full of love and a few special requests. With limited vision and a preference for peace and predictability, Leo is looking for a quiet, adult-only home where he can truly relax and enjoy his golden years.

Leo wants to be your one and only—he’s not looking to share his space with other dogs. He thrives in an environment with structure, calm, and a little extra understanding. Because of his vision impairment, sudden movements—especially reaching for something on the floor near him—make him nervous and can lead to a startled reaction.

What is my personality like: Senior • Vision Impaired • King of Comfort. Leo was originally adopted from an animal shelter in Eastern NC. After 6 months, his owner decided she did not want him anymore. Leo is blind. he was startled and snapped at his owner and it startled her. She requested euthanasia; her vet recommended rescue. Leo is a sweet, gentle boy and we're thankful he's with us.

This sweet boy lives for soft beds, gentle voices, and a simple routine. Leo enjoys short strolls in the fenced yard at his foster home, but he's happiest when curled up in a cozy spot where he can snooze the day away. He’s not high maintenance—just looking for someone who understands that love sometimes comes with boundaries. In return, Leo offers loyalty, quiet companionship, and the peaceful presence only a senior soul can bring.

If you're someone who values a mellow life, believes in second chances, and has a soft spot for wise old dogs, Leo may be the perfect match. Leo is ready for his retirement home—one filled with kindness, patience, and plenty of soft places to land.

How do I act when I first meet new people: Leo won't approach you on his own, but let him give you a good sniff and sit quietly beside him and you'll quickly find him curled tightly against you.

Tips and Tidbits: We were originally told that Leo was 6 years old. Based on his overall health and condition our veterinarian has aged him at 11 years old. This age is much more realistic based on Leo's overall behavior.

House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
