My Story
Reason for being in rescue: Breeder release
Special Needs: Gigi arrived in rescue pregnant. Her puppies are ready for their forever homes now and so is Gigi. It's her time to learn to be a companion! Gigi is spayed, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative.
What kind of home would be best for me: Gigi will do best in a calm and predictable environment where each day feels safe and familiar. Sudden changes or loud chaos can overwhelm her, but in a patient and gentle home, she will continue to blossom. Once Gigi comes around, she is your little shadow, following from one area to the next alongside her buddies!
Gigi adores the company of other small dogs and truly thrives when she has a canine friend by her side. Gigi is happiest when she can follow another dog’s lead—she finds comfort and confidence in their presence and learns so much from watching how they interact with the world. She requires another confident dog to learn from and grow with. Gigi is not cat friendly. She does not attack them, but she charges them and scares them off or scares them away from her.
If you are considering adopting Gigi - a hoarding survivor - please read this important article before you submit an application: https://bestfriends.org/pet-care-resources/what-expect-when-rescuing-puppy-mill-dog
What is my personality like: Gigi is a gentle Chihuahua momma with a big heart and strength that shines through her slightly shy demeanor. She adores the company of other small dogs and truly thrives when she has a canine friend by her side. Gigi is happiest when she can follow another dog’s lead—she finds comfort and confidence in their presence and learns so much from watching how they interact with the world. However, as a momma Gigi has shown that she can be a leader! She can stand up for herself and keep the kiddos in line.
Rescued from a hoarding situation, Gigi is still learning what it means to be a cherished family member. The “pet life” is new to her, and she is taking her time discovering all the good things it has to offer—soft blankets, gentle pets, and the security of a daily routine. She will need patience, understanding, and consistency as she continues to come out of her shell. Thankfully, Gigi is a fast learner and eager to please. Once she understands what’s expected of her, she settles beautifully into the flow of her new life, especially when guided by another friendly dog.
Gigi enjoys spending time outdoors, exploring the yard or soaking up the sunshine, but she has also learned to love curling up indoors for a nap in a cozy bed or blanket. She walks decently on a leash and is gradually learning that walks can be fun adventures rather than something to be nervous about. More walks and adventures and we know she will simply love to go! go! go!
With time and love, Gigi will reward her family with endless sweetness and loyalty—and she will thrive knowing she is finally safe, loved, and home.
How do I act when I first meet new people: Gigi is still very timid. She will be far more interested in meeting your dog than you.
Tips and Tidbits: My estimated birthday is 3/26/2022!
House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Potential Adopters
Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.
Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
