My Story
Reason for being in rescue: Mike was found as a stray and landed at a NC shelter. Carolina Poodle Rescue pulled him from the shelter.
Special Needs: Mike is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. Mike arrived in rescue with a right eye thta had collapsed and needed to be removed. He has a permanent wink! He has a cataract in his left eye. Given his age estimate, we have elected not to attempt restorative vision surgery on the left eye. He will be adopted on a medical addendum that acknowledges this. Our best estimate is that Mike is a maltese mix, but only a DNA test will tell. We won't guarantee that he is hypoallergenic or that he won't shed.
What kind of home would be best for me: Mike is a dog that wants his people. He is in a foster home with large and small dogs, as well as cats. While he is fine with them, he does like to boss them around and would be happier as your only dog. He's indifferent to cats. Mike enjoys being outside and would welcome daily walks. He understands if you work outside of the home, as long as you can provide a mid-day potty break. Mike is equal parts independent and snuggly. He is definitely not a velcro dog, but has a big heart that he's eager to share.
What is my personality like: Meet Mike, a smaller senior with one eye and the energy of a teenager! He’s a little bossy with his canine siblings—quick to bark and remind them he’s the big man on campus—but with people, he’s all play, bounces, and the cutest yoga poses. Mike loves sniffing around his fenced yard, would be a great walking buddy, and rides well in the car. While toys don’t interest him much, he makes up for it with his love of big, comfy beds where he happily snoozes at night. Mike is continuing to work on house training in his foster home. We strongly recommend belly bands for this sometimes-naughty boy!
Mike is ready to bring joy, laughter, and a little bit of sass to his forever home.
How do I act when I first meet new people: Mike is a friendly guy. He's going to give you an introductory sniff and then will jump up on your leg for pets. If you're really lucky, he'll show you his best downward dog yoga pose and ask you to play!
Tips and Tidbits: The shelter estimated Mike at 13 years old and celebrates his birthday 07/5/2012. He acts MUCH younger than his.
House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Potential Adopters
Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.
Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
