My Story
Reason for being in rescue: Underdog was found as a stray in South Carolina and landed at a rural shelter. Carolina Poodle Rescue pulled him from the shelter.
Special Needs: Underdog is neutered and up to date on all vaccines Underdog has been treated for heartworms. He has received two diroban injections. Heartworm treatment dogs do not test clear for at least six months. Underdog needs a heartworm test August 26, 2026 to ensure the treatment has been successful.
What kind of home would be best for me: Underdog would be thrilled to be your one and only pup. He absolutely adores attention and cuddles and wants to be close to his people as much as possible. In fact, he’s so devoted that he has been known to climb a three-foot fence just to get to the humans he loves. Because of his impressive climbing ability, if you have a fence, he will require a securely fenced yard with fencing at least six feet high to keep him safe while he plays and explores.
If he does share a home with another dog, that dog will need to be confident and secure - one who won’t challenge him but also won’t be intimidated by his enthusiastic play style. Wrestling is Underdog’s favorite pastime, and he does best with dogs who enjoy rough-and-tumble fun the same way he does. While he gets along with dogs both smaller and larger than himself, he can overwhelm or bully more submissive personalities, so a well-matched companion is essential.
We believe Underdog would do best in a home without young children, or with children over the age of 15. He can sometimes be startled by loud noises or sudden movements, and a calmer, more predictable environment will help him feel secure and confident.
What is my personality like: Underdog is a bold, confident terrier mix with a huge personality and an even bigger heart. As a heartworm survivor, he’s already proven just how resilient and strong he is - and that strength shines through in his spirited, adventurous nature. He’s ready to leave the past behind and dive headfirst into a life full of love, fun, and connection.
With the right setup - a secure yard, thoughtful structure, and either a compatible canine companion or all the love to himself - Underdog will be a fiercely loyal, affectionate, and entertaining companion ready to share life’s adventures. Underdog is a cuddler through and through and loves to sit in your lap or beside you for face pets and kisses.
How do I act when I first meet new people: Underdog can be a tad shy at first. He's bashful like that, but a treat and five minutes and you can't get him off your lap!
Tips and Tidbits: Underdog was found as a stray, so we have absolutely no history on him. Based on his overall health and condition he is estimated at 3 years old. We celebrate his birthday 08/05/2022.
House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Potential Adopters
Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.
Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
