My Story
Reason for being in rescue: Petey was found as a stray in rural SC and landed at a shelter.
Special Needs: Petey is neutered and up to date on all vaccines and has a negative heartworm test. Petey was heartworm positive when he came into rescue. He has since been treated for heartworms with diroban and cleared for adoption. He will need a follow up heartworm test in 6 months (est August 2026) to ensure all treatments were successful. Petey was found as a stray. We have absolutely no history on him pre-rescue. We cannot guarantee that he is hypoallergenic or that he won't shed.
What kind of home would be best for me: Petey’s biggest charm - and challenge - is that he loves to talk. He enjoys expressing himself and hearing his own voice, often sharing his thoughts throughout the day. While he can absolutely settle down for long, cozy naps, he is naturally vocal. Because of this, Petey will need a standalone home without shared walls, as apartment or townhouse living would likely not be a good fit.
Petey would make an excellent companion for a senior or anyone who enjoys quiet days spent relaxing on the couch watching movies with a devoted little shadow nearby. Petey does not require another dog in the home but would happily welcome a canine companion to cuddle with. His ideal home would be with someone who is home most of the time, as Petey thrives on companionship and being near his people. Like any rescued dog, Petey will need time, patience, and understanding as he settles into his new home and routine.
What is my personality like: Petey is a talkative young senior who is ready to make his person his entire world. This little white poodle mix is full of personality and joy - he truly loves life and everything in it. Petey loves people, other dogs, and especially mealtime. He is affection wrapped in fluffy curls and is simply a sweet, wonderful little gentleman.
Petey gets along wonderfully with dogs both big and small and especially enjoys snuggling with both people and furry friends alike. He walks reasonably well on a leash but would much rather be carried close to his person whenever possible. Petey keeps a clean kennel overnight, and it’s clear that at some point in his life he was deeply loved and cared for.
How do I act when I first meet new people: Petey loves to talk. The more people he can chat with the better!
Tips and Tidbits: Petey was found as a stray. We have absolutely no history on him pre-rescue. Based on his overall health and condition, we think he's a distinguished gentleman at around 10 years old. We are celebrating his birth on 12/8/2015.
House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Potential Adopters
Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.
Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
