Biography
Why am I with a rescue group?
Eliza is one of the most heartbreaking souls we’ve ever taken in. There is no gentle way to say it - she is absolutely mortified of people. Even after time in rescue, surrounded by safety, routine, and patient care, Eliza remains untouchable. She will run from human hands, she will hide, and if cornered or touched against her will, she may bite - and has before.
Eliza came to us from a South Carolina shelter after being removed from a hoarding situation. Whatever she lived through before arriving here left a deep, unshakable mark on her spirit. No one knows why she is the most terrified of her group, why she shut down so completely, or why trust seems impossible for her, but the damage is real and it is profound. Even with other dogs around her - confident dogs, friendly dogs, dogs who happily greet us and follow us - Eliza does not mirror their behavior. She watches from a distance, frozen in her fear, unable to take the steps they take so easily. She is a dog who has been hurt in ways we cannot see, and she carries that history in every trembling breath.
Eliza needs a home that understands she may never be a cuddly companion, may never seek out affection, and may never fully trust humans. She needs someone who can love her exactly as she is, without expectations, without pressure, and without the need for her to become a “normal” dog. For the rare, extraordinary person who can offer that kind of unconditional acceptance, Eliza deserves a chance at a quiet life where she can simply exist safely, gently, and on her own terms.
Sponsorship
Can’t have a dog of your own? Have a soft spot for old, sick or hard to place dogs? It only takes a $20 a month donation for me to be your virtual dog! I need at least 10 virtual adopters (sponsors) to help cover my monthly costs. If I have medical challenges I need even more! The caregivers at Carolina Poodle Rescue will do the rest. Just think, without ever having to leave your home, you can have your very own online dog that will send you update emails, make Facebook posts, and be eternally grateful for your support! Go to the donate link at the top of the page for instructions as to how to donate. Questions? Email: cprsosdogs@carolinapoodlerescue.org
I LOVE MY Virtual Adopters! ELIZA IS LOOKING FOR HER VIRTUAL ADOPTERS!
